  1. Hey everyone! BayAnime has been around for a while now but I know there are a lot of improvements to be made... so I'd like to get some feedback about what you're looking for here so I know what I should really focus my efforts on!

Please feel free to post any feedback or suggestions in this thread. Here are some questions off the top of my head to start things:

    - What kind of content would you most like to see on our site?

    - Do you like the layout and format of the site? If not, what should be improved?

    - One thing that's on my list is to approach some companies about giving our community some special discounts... Where do most of you buy anime? At local shops, conventions/events, or online? Which specific shops or events? What kinds of anime merchandise are you most interested in?

    - Do you feel that there are enough events and/or social meetups for anime fans in the Bay Area? Are you interested in more opportunities to socialize? What kinds of activities are you most interested in?

    I personally don't mind this layout....I've been a subscriber/follower of K.I.S.S.; Keep it simple, stupid. :D

I should check to see how it looks on an iphone though.
hey...there's a thought....a BayAnime app but judging from the fact that both of us are lazy as fudge on a cold day....dunno if it'll ever be made :p

  3. - it'd be cool to have more original content from the community, like more beardog strips...i'd be willing to contribute stuff too (assuming i can come up with anything worth contributing :-)
    - format is fine, i think, although a "preview before post" option would be nice
    - social meetups would be cool, too -- maybe food and/or screenings?

  4. Gah, speaking of beardog strips I still have to post that one lifepoint1 drew to the main site.

And I'd definitely welcome any community contributions! In fact, I am (always) looking for help and content so just let me know if you've got anything, ultramike. Event reports, articles, art, etc. I should probably post an official announcement about that here.

Will also look into a preview post option for the forums. Thanks for the suggestions!

  5. The bay area is really lucky to have a site like this. It’s great to have a place where I can get a collective view of all the various anime related events around the bay. Before this site, I was left to Googling whatever I thought were relevant keywords, and wading though Craig’s List for information. Now I just come here and get all the info I’m looking for, and also learn about new events and groups that I would otherwise not be able to even come across. I personally believe that the Bay area is one of the coolest places for fans of the Anime/manga culture, and Bayanime.com will soon become the definitive hub for all kinds of anime supporters and fanatics.

I agree with Mike on how it would be cool to have more original submissions to the site, which also makes me feel that I should wrap up the 2nd Beardog strip sooner rather than later. Outside of art, however, I think writers are really crucial to building much of the site’s core content. As much as there are events around the bay, there really isn’t a lot of available perspective or commentary to compliment it, and I know there is a demand for it. I’d like to see more site updates with editorials about anime series/movies, conventions, cosplay culture, etc.., but I know that a lot of that relies on contributions from members and visitors. As you mentioned above, Ann, posting an announcement about submissions would really be cool. As one suggestion, I personally think it’s completely okay for the webmaster, or host to make detailed requests to members for specific things like articles about particular subjects, events, titles, and such. Keeping themes open, casual, and leaving it up to the contributor is cool too, but in the beginning stages, I’d say there's no harm in giving some quidelines, just to ease the momentum off in the right direction.

I had some other things to say, but I think I’ll post them later. It’s been a loooong day.:P

I agree with lifepoint, this site is really great. Found alot of interesting places from this site so far.

As well as I like the idea of "original submissions."

I guess I prefer to buy most merchandise from ebay, or Amazon these days. Once in a blue moon I'll check out my local Lee's Comics store to pick up something random, but my buying habits have fizzled a bit lately in terms of anime..... I can't say that sites like youtube, crunchyroll, and other internet based thing-a-majigs are not to blame for that.:P A couple of my freinds like to buy anime figurines, but they don't know of any places to buy them locally.

The best promotions and discounts that would get me excited would definitely be anything related to conventions or related events, whether it would be reduced entrance fees, backstage(?) passes, or uh.. something that would get me more glomps?
If BayAnime were to become like an online-zine or a press-ish site, maybe stuff like that could be possible.

Personally, I don't think there can ever be enough social events and meetups. I'm all for going out and hanging out with other fans, but I also wouldn't mind meetings that have agendas. Examples would be like meeting up to help out with setting up events, discuss or write articles, shoot videos, hold panels, conduct interviews and such.

Okay with that I'll post the last part of my feedback later. XP

  8. Avatars are currently linked to your email and universal gravatar. If this is too confusing I will look into changing it.

Hmm, I think there might be discounted group rates for some of the big conventions. (Who ISN'T going to Fanime?) Another good idea! Will post info when I get it in a separate thread.

Since this community is pretty much comprised of people from the area, social meetups and real life group projects are always a possibility! Unfortunately I don't have the time to spearhead every effort but that's what you guys are here for, right? Hehe...

So... start with something easy. Original content. Anyone have anything lying around that you'd like to share? So far lifepoint1's contributed Beardog art, a comic strip, and is working on a game (thanks for this, btw)!

  9. i'd be willing to contribute comics -- i'm a fan of self-contained short (1-5 page?) stories, and i've got a few concepts rattling around in my head. i'll try to put some together during the winter shutdown -- hopefully they'll be up to your standards :-)

Cool, ultramike! We're all looking forward to seeing what you come up with! ^_^

  11. I want it easier for users to post events, anime/movie/manga/game reviews and meets :3

Would be nice if we get to post some of them up to fill the different tags :3
How do we submit the stuffs anyways?

I usually review the DS games I buy and rate it on my blog, would be fun if people can see different people's opinions on products too! And I like collecting decent arbooks that can help artists improve their knowledge in drawing ^^

Hey Rainbow Ichi, those are all great ideas! Artbooks/games/product reviews would be really appreciated. What I'm hoping for is that people post whatever they'd like here in the forums, and anything that might be really useful or detailed could be added on the main Bay Anime site. Or if you already have something like a meetup that is open to the general public to submit (or other stuff that would definitely be more appropriate on the main site), there's the submissions page.

Sailor Moon, please do keep us up to date on any events/gatherings you know of!

Help! I can't find how to set my avatar (and/or how to search the forums for 'avatar')...

  17. Thanks for fielding that, Stythys! It's actually in the welcome/rules post, but maybe no one really notices that... Anyway I'm going to make it another sticky.

  18. This is pretty minor, but I would like to find out why the comment system likes to eat my posts. Trying to post time-sensitive info like the ticketing for Miyazaki event and finding the comment got eaten was... not what I wanted to see.

I also think a preview before post option would be nice.

  19. Hi Warner, we were using Akismet for comment spam which unfortunately doesn't offer any control for what it flags. I've turned it off for now and am using something different for spam so hopefully that will solve the problem.

Will add preview before post to my list of things to do... thanks for the suggestion!

  20. Emoticons and sigs on BayAnime anyone? I like using emoticons and I have seen some sweet sigs from posters on other forums.
