  1. I thought I'd post something in the art and animation thread.
This is an animation I made about 6 years ago (Wow i can't believe it's been that long already.)

I worked on this over a period of nine months, although I took long breaks in between. Everything including the music was made from scratch so I guess you can say it was a labor of love. I've probably worked on about 30 or so animations since then, but I still consider this my best work. It ends on a cliffhanger, but I dunno if I'll ever get to the doing part 2. Hopefully someday.

  2. Wow, great job Steven! I think you especially did a great job with the scoring; really matches the animation. I dunno about you but for me it kind of has a Zelda-esque feel. Are you self-taught when it comes to animation?

We'll be looking forward to part 2... someday!

  3. Thanks for watching it!
I think Zelda: Windwaker came out for the Gamecube around the time this was made. I remember hearing comparisons from my friends back then and thinking OMG Nintendo sooo stole my style! (just kidding :P.) But I can't deny the Zelda series as an influence since its pretty much embedded into my childhood.

As for animation, I'd say I know everything I know today thanks to working on this peice. Adobe Flash (or formerly Macromedia Flash) definitely makes it easy for anyone to make animations with just a few tutorials. Thanks to the marvels of the digital age, I think a lot of this generation's artists and animators can call themselves self-taught whether its animation or still art.

I've been thnking of making some animation tutorials for ages, but after writing one I realized how they can be a pain the arse to put together, especially with my rambling style of writing.

  4. Ha! Well I'd say it's also a compliment to be compared to Zelda! ^_^ I also learned everything I know about programming websites online. It's usually just way faster for me to use a searchable online reference over a printed book. The web is an amazing resource!

  5. holy cow, that's pretty impressive animation! did you use any special techniques to handle the more complex movement (jumping, running, etc.)? i wish i had the dedication to undertake a 9 month project, haha. you should definitely do a follow up...

  6. That was pretty neat ^_^ I have no animation making experience but from an audience point of you I think that your idea is really great. I specially like the part with the leaves blowing ^_^. You left me wanting to watch more ^_^
