Anyone know if Benten Label is going to do a Girls nite tour like they did a couple of years ago. I’d really love to see Tsushimamire live again. And Noodles. And Petty Booka. And…

On the Benten owner’s MySpace page she mentions that “Japan Girls Nite” will be happening in October/November.

    Thanks Ann,
You just made my month. I saw the show a couple of years back and it was awesome. There was a great energy. At some concerts you get people who are just there to fight. There was none of that there. It seemed that everyone was just there to have fun and check out something different. And the artists were very accessible, at least as much as the language gap allowed.
My two favorite bands were Tsushimamire and Noodles. The bassist for Tsushimamire was out of this world. When she was playing she moved like the music was coming from her body instead of from her guitar. She (and the rest of the band) put so much into every song. You could tell the crowd really appreciated all the bands and how much they put into their music.

You’re very welcome, Larushka! Did you make it out for this event or are you waiting for Girls Nite to come around? I did see the show as well, once in Boston a LONG time ago and another time here in SF a few years back. You get a lot of independent bands of extreme varying skill levels here but I was consistently impressed by ALL the bands this tour brought over. The Noodles were my favorite and I also distinctly recall being in awe of one member of Tsushimamire being so into the music she was playing… it must have been the bassist!

I did go out to this show. I don’t know when the best time to go is, but 7:30 was not it. I drove around for about 20 minutes and I ended up having to park about a mile away. It was the type of neighborhood where I was glad to find my truck still there when I got back.

While I was there I found out that the Noodles are going to be playing at the Red Devil Lounge Apr 7th. It starts at 8pm so they’ll probably be on around 10pm. It’s a Tuesday, so if I have the energy to go I wonder if I should go earlier in the hopes of better parking?

The place filled up quick. It was about half full by the end of the first act and packed by the end of the second. There were five acts total. The first band, a band called Flip was actually one of the better ones. It was a four piece all girl band. They looked like they were still in high school. They rocked pretty hard though. They also had a wide variety of songs and you could tell they put some work into the arrangment. Some of the other bands sounded like they were playing the same song over and over for an hour.

The crowd was pretty cool. They were definitely into the music. You tell that some were just happy to be there, bouncing up and down even when the music was so-so. There was one girl in lolita. She was pretty cute.

The level of music wasn’t up to what I would have like, but for $15 I felt like I got my moneys worth. And I certainly appreciated that they came all this way to play for us.

I tried to get pictures for everyone, but they had a no-flash rule. My camera skills aren’t good enough for a dark room like that yet so all the pictures I took are fuzzy. gomen.
