Location: Concourse Exhibition Center, 620 7th St, San Francisco [View Directions]

APE is one of the country’s largest gatherings of the best in indie comics, offering a venue for exhibitors ranging from self-publishers of minicomics to such large publishers as SLG Publishing, Fantagraphics, Drawn and Quarterly, Oni Press, Top Shelf, and many more. It offers a huge collection of some of the best indie and alternative comics material out there: graphic novels, ‘zines, art books, prints, original art, and comics of every size and shape. You can’t walk through the giant APE Exhibit Hall and not be inspired to either open your wallet and buy cool stuff or go home and hunker down and create some of your own. It’s that kind of show.

APE 2008 memberships are available only at the event. A one-day membership (for either Saturday OR Sunday) is $10; a two-day membership for both days is $15. Attendees who present their 2008 Comic-Con International San Diego badge get in for free. Comics Retailers with a valid business card also get in for free. APE 2008 hours are Saturday, November 1, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Sunday, November 2, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Events, Parties & Social Meetups

CAA Manga Social, UC Berkeley, 2 Oct 08

October 2, 2008
5:30 pmto7:30 pm

Many people have been attending Manga Social XD and Free Speech Cafe turned out to be too crowded for such a large group of enthusiastic manga fans. That is why Manga Social will be moved to the second floor of Dwinelle starting this week (~transitions into Game Night perfectly at 7:30~). We will most likely be in room 210, if not, check the other rooms in that area.

Discussion:
- Mirai Nikki c1-32 (ALL)
- Bokurano v1 (Intro, Kokopelli, Dung Beetle, Waku, and Kodama, the father-complex guy)
- Kuroshitsuji v1 (right where the butler reveals his identity)

We will prepare a list of possible topics beforehand. Let’s do some real discussion this week! XD For more info there is a thread on the forums.

Location: UC Berkeley, Dwinelle, 2nd Floor (check room 210) [View Map]

Organizer: Cal Animage Alpha
